Cognitive behavioral therapy has been
found to be effective for a variety of different social phobia disorders, especially panic disorder and social
phobia.
In this type of therapy the focus is a
sufferer’s thoughts and behaviors. A person in therapy will be led to identify and deal with negative thoughts
that can be aiding in creating panic and anxiety.
The behavioral part aims to change a
person's reaction to situations that stimulates anxiety. It aims to show proof to a person with social phobia
that their beliefs about what others think is false. Gradual exposure to a persons fear in a safe controlled
environment can slowly give a sufferer greater control of his anxiety. This treatment of social anxiety disorder
can also include anxiety management training, which shows a person diagnosed with social phobia many techniques
on how to deal with social anxiety such as relaxation and breathing techniques.
CBT can also be held in group sessions,
the social interaction in a loving accepting environment can sometimes aid in the treatment of social anxiety
disorder.
A variety of different anti depressants
and anxiety medications are also used for treatment.
COMPLEMENT TO TREATMENT FOR SOCIAL ANXIETY
DISORDER
The following treatments have been shown
to be a great complement to medication and treatment, and on some minor cases of anxiety disorder they have been
enough to offer relief.
Hypnosis - Hypnosis has been used with
cognitive behavioral therapy in dealing with anxiety. A hypnotherapist puts the sufferer in a hypnotic state or
a deep state of relaxation. They than use a variety of techniques to allow you to face your fears and perceive
them in different ways than before.
Exercise - As a past sufferer of anxiety
disorder I can attest to the power of an exercise regiment. What I discovered was that doing 30 minutes to 1
hour of exercise 3 to 5 days a week, greatly reduced my stress levels and the anxiety I was experiencing.
Exercise is a known stress reliever and best of all it not only gives mental relief but physical relief also.
Techniques in Relaxation - Regular
relaxation techniques like medication, muscle relaxation, visualization, and control of breathing has been shown
to be able to reduce the amount of anxiety experienced.
Biofeed back - This treatment for social anxiety disorder uses sensors that measure different
functions like heart rate, tension in the muscles, and breathing patters. Biofeed back shows you how to
recognize anxiety in your body and learn how to be in control of them using different relaxation
techniques.
